When bad jewelry happens to good people
My bracelet. The brown thing you see on the top is the "stopper" bead. Where is photoshop when you need it??? ARGH! The only thing good about this bracelet IS the stopper bead.

One hour later, after a total of THREE hours, and look what I have, below! Check out that giant thread!!! Yeah, I meant to put that there!!!

Man what was I thinking concerning the colors, as well??? What the heck is that about??? Lisa Kanhttp://www.LisaKan.com, avert your eyes. Jamie Hogsett, tread not here.

argh! Beadwork, pretend you don't see this, either. I need serious help.

Tammy Powley is the host who runs (with great experience) the Jewelrymaking.About.com site http://jewelrymaking.about.com/ which is a cool forum and educational website containing all sorts of jewelry information. This site was the very first place I joined when I was just learning how to make jewelry. I would enthusiastically hook earrings together, only to have them fly off in the most awkward of situations, I would macrame with the wrong kind of string, so that I had red silk bumpy earrings with hearts sort of half attached onto them, and I just was really horrible at making jewelry (hey, you have to start somewhere!). So I need the site badly. I also thoroughly needed the weekly emails I would get from this site. I would read them carefully, and occasionally I would contribute posts and even start threads, going by the name of "jeannieby". Apparently there were so many people on this massive site I couldn't get "jean", "jeannie", "jeanthebean", or "jeanniebeannie". Nor could I get "ByJeannie". So I got the weird name "jeannieby". And that is the origin of it.

After I got settled in there pretty much, and approximately 5 people knew who I was (I needed people to know me a little! ) I started this particular thread I recall clear as a bell. A thread is where you have a conversation which is begun a by statement you make, or a question you have, and then you get a series of responses )--HOW APPROPRIATE! a THREAD! see above!!!-
- It was called, "When bad jewelry happens to good people." I even remember the bracelet I had designed which prompted this. It had citrines in it and it was darn ugly! So: you win some, lose some! I got a pretty good response to that thread. I guess this happens to other people too. We all seemed to derive some kind of bizarre amusement by the thought of gross jewlery.

Anyway: around three years later, here I am, ready to display to you a really ugly bracelet I started last night, in order to chill out from some work I have been doing solidly for a week.

You know when you fall asleep on your computer without dinner you have been doing too much.

So yesterday, I got out the seedbeads I had ordered from fusionbeads.com, inspired by my friend Elizabethhttp://www.fourleafpress.com/ and my friends Jamie Hogsett and Lisa Kan,

Tammy herself does some great seedbeading-- I have reviewed one of her books (can't wait to get the newest one!)! see amazon, here : http://www.amazon.com/Making-Designer-Stone-Crystal-Jewelry/dp/1592532454/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/102-6001183-4128956?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190290999&sr=1-3 , as does Heather Powers http://www.humblebeads.blogspot.com/ and Cyndi Lavin http://www.bead-arts.com/

Well I just guess I said, "jeannieby, it's your turn!" Maketh a seed bead bracelet, and maketh it noweth!
Unfortunately, we can't always get what we want. After three hours of work, I am going to have to accept I need to redo this. TOTALLY! I CANNOT FAKE THIS DREADFUL BRACELET.
sigh!
ok.
I will do it.
It's a little like doing chain maille.I sense that if I get the hang of it, it will be relaxing. I hope you enjoyed this funny post. Just because I can do some things doesn't mean I can do everything!!!

Hey thanks for showing your fuglies! I know you will make something beautious happen out of that mess!

Me and seed beads are not really friends. I am in awe of what other people do with them, but they just end up a mess on my floor.

I got a copy of the new Sherry Serafini/Heidi Kummli book about bead embroidery and it is so incredibly beautiful! Like I said, I am in complete awe!

Ah, the making of the crap is a good thing. I spent my first few years of beading doing bead weaving. I learned after a time that I was not forged of the stuff that makes a good seed beader. They are a very different animal.

It is good to stretch yourself creatively and to work hard at new challenging things. You will get this and you will make something amazing. This I know.

Love you
Midge

Now this is exciting. I have probably no less than 50 beautiful pieces of seed bead jewelry. Yep. In all varieties of colors and patterns and designs. I imagine a lot of people might think they are ugly. But each one was made for me by a camper, with great love and effort, and I love each one. And each one is stunningly beautiful for that reason.

Hi, Jeannieby! I did not know that true artists like you, recognized and published for your talent, and right-brained can create something and have it not turn out the way you planned in your head. This happens to me A LOT. But I know I'm a left brainer that simply enjoys trying to exercise the other half of my brain. I don't know if this helps, but when this happens to me I: #1 Put it in an "unfinished project" drawer, #2 Go to magazines that I have marked pages in (or pictures of cards I downloaded from someone's blog) in which I have all the materials to duplicate or make appropriate substitutions and I make that instead.
This satisfies my need to create and helps me get rid of my frustration. Every few months, I look in that unfinished project drawer. Most of the time I go through it, and close it again. But a year ago I made 14 cards (items had been in the drawer for 4 years)that I was really pleased with. In the past two weeks I have made 6 cards from stuff in that drawer (and I know the things I used had been in there for 10 years!!!) Maybe September is lucky for me and that drawer. Okay big time rambling here, so I'll close for now and say, I love you, Jean!

June -- what a good idea!!!

I usually drive on through with something but waiting will help on this.

I have been noticing your great things which you have been making recenty! Loving all of them!

I got lucky! Lisa Kan, unbeknownst to me, read my blog. I had actually mentioned her in it.

She is an EXPERT seed beader. She took the time out of her busy day ( you don't know busy til you know Lisa!!!) to email me some suggestions! I was so happy to get them! They....MADE SENSE! so now I have you, and her, on my side! I can't lose! :)
