Jean Jetson and her fleet of dogs and cats
A Chow. we had a Samoyed (pretty similar) when I was little, named Charlie. He sat next to my father's fifties style armchair at night and breathed heavily, and breathed heavily some more, as my father would plow through all his magazines and watch TV. As soon as my father finished a magazine (Diving magazine, Newsweek, Life, Popular something or other), he would immediately get up and throw it out. My father had the phone there in case someone had the bizarre notion to call after 7 p.m.
My mother, meanwhile, was across from my father in a fancy schmancy Queen Anne wing chair. She had a lamp with two tables and ball and claw feet or something. Or maybe they were plain feet. She would be doing her CRAFTS!!! Yes, crafts!!! Can you beat that?

They never changed anything in the living room for approximately 20 years. Then they got a new rug, or something like that. This was an event.

Vermeil necklace copyright jean -- if you hit on it, it might enlarge. not sure. Those are three colors of Swarovskis and two colors of small bone beads.

Yesterday, or the day before, I said to Jim: "You know, Jim, I think I would like to spend some time working at a grooming salon for pets. After all , we all realize how good I am with dogs!"

I was imagining saying "Ciao" to a nice big fluffy chow. See one in picture above. I wonder if anyone but me has ever thought of that amusing joke. Ha, ha, ha.
A lot of people are scared of dogs like that. That is because they are what is known as "one man dogs". See? I know stuff. I know to avert my eyes, and not make eye contact, and to pant rapidly in a friendly way. Things like this help. These sorts of things do not work with humans in cocktail party situations. Don't get mixed up, please. You'll only have yourself to blame.

Nope. I am not scared of dogs because I speak dog, remember?
We have Ghalli.

Jean, the dog whisperer.

Plus we also have sweet Cecil, our cat.

Jean, the cat whisperer.

Anyway, in response to my pet parlor query:
Jim said, "No."
That is the end of that story.

So above is a photo closeup of the necklace I made especially for the Soft Flex Company, for this month , as I am Designer of the Month for October. There are some other strung pieces of mine on display on their site if you go herehttp://www.softflexcompany.com/spotlightdesigner_Oct07.htm

and I have posted a photo close-up of this necklace from there. I made it this past summer expressly for their site. I wanted to have a design celebrating October colors.

Obviously, as a jewelry designer, I, as do "we all", (trying to sound pretentious here) think ahead pretty much a year in advance anyway, so this was not a difficult mood to get into. That is true. I was actually thinking backwards. If you are making stuff for yourself, you are probably thinking Christmas presents for your family right now. However, for me, the elegant brown tones and the shatteringly gorgeous light which flashes through the leaves during the season of October was pleasant to express creatively back in the hot sweaty gross July days of summer '07.

Wow. What season am I up to right now? It's hard to say. Sometimes I am a year and a half ahead. That would be ...let's see...Spring 2009? I could keep going and end up in the next millennium. Who's with me? Ladies from the scrapbook community, how do you feel about this? I would like to know. Seriously. Or anyone! Thanks!

first off - jean the dog/cat/blog whisperer you make me laugh every day :-)
that's one beauteous necklace. and it does make me think of fall.
as far as scrappin goes - that's the beauty of it - i can be doing christmas layouts during the hottest day of july or august. you can kinda pick what you wanna awork on (particularly if you are like me - surrounded by boxes of photos from the last 25 years... ahem) sometimes it helps, however, for you to work on something within the season you are experiencing (if its fallish outside you might feel more inclined to look at Halloween or Thanksgiving pictures cos you're already in the mood.... kwim?)

Hi Tracy: ok, so in your case, you might say you have a more intense connection to what is going on around you. thanks!

ps: if my interpretation is wrong, just tell me!

That necklace is GORGEOUS! My favorite so far.

I laughed so hard when I got to, "Jim said'no'." You crack me up! I think you would be perfect for the job. Just like Geena Davis in "The Accidental Tourist", am I right?

Now going to next millenium...I'm with Tracy...generally I tend to scrapbook the season I am in. However, I intend to keep going until through the new millenium, so I'll scrap, and you design your beautiful jewelry; we will craft together, k?

Jean,
Love that necklace so much! Want!

Since I am newish to writing for publications, the whole thinking out of season is new to me, and very confusing! Of course, I could make things for fall all year round. I love brown and any derivitive of brown and that's what I wear all year. So it is really challenging for me right now to work on spring and summer stuff, when I just want brown!!!

The first time the season confusion hit me was last Christmas, when I was getting a Halloween article ready to photograph and couldn't find candy corn for the props. And then later that day I made Christmas cookies. Wha!?! :p
