"Pie" Bracelet for Art Bead Scene, October
Part of the Bayeux Tapestry, see reference later

Hi! It's Pie!!! My bracelet entry for Art Bead Scene on Flickr.com for October-- a close up photo

Another photo of the same bracelet, where you can see the sweet hanging pumpkins and the even smaller accent pumpkins!Art Bead Scene http://www.artbeadscene.blogspot.com/ said in their blog when they called for the October challenge:

"Good morning ghouls and goblins. Join us this month for a spooky challenge, if you dare! Our theme is Gothic Queen. This can encompass anything Halloween related, the gothic style or dark color combinations like black with red, orange or purple, if Halloween just isn't your thing.
Scare us with your brilliant designs by posting your wonderful entries to our Flickr group. Our sponsors this month are Cindy Gimbrone Beads and Rings & Things!
The Details: This challenge is open to jewelry-makers, fiber artists, collage artists, etc."

Well, this isn't a very SCARY bracelet, but Melanie of Earthenwood Studio http://www.earthenwoodstudio.com/ made the wonderful porcelain beady pumpkins (and they ARE orange, as part of the challenge requested!) and the "spookyhead Pumpkin"--the large smiling Pumpkin charm on the sterling toggle vine clasp, which is in honor of Pie. I put it all together with Swarovskis in Emerald AB and Peridot AB. My motto: When in doubt, use 6mm Swarovski rounds.

Well, one of my mottoes. <--spellchecker spells it this way, not I.

We had so many sayings in my family, if you added them all up, you could easily have had a year full of sayings, or more. On one of those calendars with little drawings, or excerpts of the Bayeux Tapestry on each page, or something. [Note on the Bayeux Tapestry (see above my bracelet), which I have viewed and admired: "The Bayeux Tapestry is an embroidery that is roughly 20 inches tall and 230 feet long. It tells the story of the events leading up to and including the Battle of Hastings on October 14, 1066. "]<-it is really long and takes a long time to look at. I know. I saw it. I needed an energy drink, after. Those people in the olden days had a lot of time on their hands back when they didn't have TV. To think, if they had had "Earl", or "Two and a Half Men", this might NEVER HAVE BEEN MADE. Anyway, my favorite family saying, which I have no doubt typed out here before: "Be good, be bad, but don't be stupid." It's got a nice ring to it. I like it. I have my grandmother to thank for that one. She also said my other favorite, "I'll do it because I want to, but not because you tell me to!" Which really is near and dear to my heart, because it is sort of true and sort of not true, in my case. I am a pretty good person and I try really hard to be good. I don't like being told what to do. So don't tell me and I'll do it. For example, I take out our garbage every week. I decided I would be the one to do this. if Jim had asked me, I never would have done it. or maybe I would have. I don't know. I use this time to meditate, usually. I call this: "Garbage meditation time".
Anyway. I am definitely slightly O.D.D. (Oppositional Defiant Disorder), as you all know. Everyone I "Hang" with is. It's pretty funny. We are all polite, nice, good people, but DON'T TELL US WHAT TO DO. At least, for pete's sake, be clever if you try to trick us into doing what you want by telling us to do the opposite of what you want us to do. That MIGHT work. For example: "Jean, whatever you do, DON'T make bouillabaisse tonight! Or a facsimile of the Bayeux Tapestry! That's an order!"
...Oh yeah?
I'm all over it!
I'll show YOU!
:)

Love that pumpkin-ey bracelet. I want to order everyone of those Earthenware Beads to make an coolio knotted necklace. I've got it all figured out in my head...now just to have money left over after bills.

But I LOVE your grandmother's saying...I'm going to remember that!

A delightful tribute to your amazing pumpkin!

Melanie does make fabulous beads, I have a small collection here I have to remind myself to stop hoarding and start using! They're all so captivating, I feel a bit like Gollum.

waving hand wildly here -I've got ODD too... in big doses!
and the Bayeux Tapestry. fondly brings me back to Art History 101 - for some reason the teacher could say "Bayeux" but when it came to "the Birth of Venus" by Botticelli she decided it must be the Birth of Venice.
It was hard to take anything she said seriously after that.
you - i take seriously :-) - check my blog you!
