Love Story, Ornament Thursday
Hit on this top one, above, to enlarge it. Check it out!

This is the top of what I see as a candy box full of real treats: handbags

Here is a little quote I am jokingly putting up : note the fun handbag next to it which goes!

I am a member of a cool group called Ornament Thursday: you can see it over on my sidebar of my blog, and if you hit on the banner, it will take you to the supercool site. The day before we all link, we post our individual ornaments (or creations) which we have made. The subject for January is Love Story.
I made a creation involving pocketbooks because I love the affection women have for their handbags. It makes no sense yet it makes total sense. My big Christmas present was a very wild handbag. HAHAHAHA. Jim did not choose it, however he allowed me to buy it.
The instructions for this little creation I made are simple:
a medium size Whitman's sampler of chocolates, in their yellow box
a collection of heart charms, gunmetal chain, and some gray and lace velvet ribbon from http://www.ornamentea.com/ (Ornamentea)
some Elmer's glue
white poster board
1) eat all the chocolates. Yourself.
2) Cut out some of the larger photos from the calendar, and a quote you like
3) Glue them on the top of the chocolate box; glue quote on one side with medium size handbag
4) Let them dry
5) Tie the ribbon around the top as charmingly as you can
6) arrange hearts on the top, reserving a few
7) cut out little pocketbooks/handbags
8) place them in candy thingies
9) get your white poster board out and arrange chain, candy box with handbags, extra pocketbooks you didn't use in major design, a few hearts on poster board, and the top all on the poster board.
10) get husband to take photos

I believe that some women have a deep love of pocketbooks. I personally do. Therefore, my love story is all about pocketbooks. I hope you enjoy this !

I am not a big handbag fan, but for my sis it is a competition between chocolate and bags. She would love this lol! This is great Jean.

I did get a designer red leather bag for Christmas and I am rather liking it. I had a major yen for a red handbag and santa brought one hee! hee!

Well, I am more often seen toting a big blue backpack with me ... but that is because I will be in school for the rest of my life.

I do have a brown purse from Gap (unlike me, truly, but I found it while looking for a present for my brother) that I really love.

You know. For the days I decide I don't have to lug around books written in old dead languages.

I keep trying to send you an email. But then I either forget or fall asleep or get so aggravated I threaten to throw my Greek book down the garbage disposal. I'll send it sometime. (The email, not the book.) :)

super creative. But I'm not surprised by that!

BTW...I really want this purse made out of an old bank teller tube. It would be an interesting addition to a sampler.

I love this - everyday I could just pick out a bag to go with the "theme" of the day and clip it to fridge or the dash board of my car. By the time I looked at it often enough I'd be in that very bag's mind set and ready get on with it!

Tracy--thanks for stopping by--I loved the calendar so much it almost broke my heart to cut it up... but maybe Jim will get me another one! For some strange reason we have plenty of calendars this year, including Kate McKinnon's awesome PMC calendar which I bought ages ago,way in advance of 2008, but a handbag (I actually call them pcoketbooks) calendar is something a person has to cherish! You know?

Linda--you're great! I loved yours as well, as you know. I also neglected to say I understand the fabric printing you were doing and the time period it came from. Our family had that sort of lovely fabric, however, it was a stencil type of design hand done on tablecloths and placemats. We loved these and cared for them especially carefully!

January 31, 2008 6:52 PM

This is great Jean, so fun! I like step one best. yum chocolate! I love chocolate boxes, it is so hard to throw the out...much better to keep them and make art! Thanks for sharing!

Jean, I bet if any purse was stolen, it would be one of those suckers, just cause it is so freakin' unique. I didn't try ebay. Honestly, I've done the research and I think she's one of the only ones out there mass producing it. but that was a search a year or so ago. Could have changed by now.
