Here is how it falls, if you are standing and ACTUALLY WEARING IT.
Here it is above, in all its glory, my offering this Month for:
That's right, today the topic for Ornament Thursday http://www.ornamentthursday.blogspot.com/ IS LUCK, SO I, logically, THOUGHT, : Geesh, Luck! ..... and then, right off : "hmmm" ...and "Do I feel Lucky, Punk"?If you are thirty or less, forget about reading this and having it make much sense, because the spate of "Dirty Harry" movies, starring the extraordinary actor (and now great director) Clint Eastwood, with THAT famous quote, which moved a decade of Americans of a certain type to intone that, in the same manner, every chance they got, were at the height of their iconic popularity around 1983 or so. That's twenty five years ago. Yes! That's right, YOUR PARENTS were guarding your sweet little head by cutting holes in tennis balls and sticking them on the sharp edges of seventies- style glass coffee tables so YOU didn't fall down and hurt yourself, ( yep, these stupid tables were still popular, and came from places which came before IKEA, and we all thought they were so chic and "Jetson-y", what with their clip-on, chrome colored legs. They were one item I hope never comes back in style. Cans of tennis balls can get expensive, darn it!!! The more kids you have, the more cans of tennis balls you needed back then (kids get smart and just pull the tennis balls off and hide them or give them to family dogs), and at $3.50 per can of tennis balls a pop, back then, kids' expenses just mounted from the day they pulled themselves up on their cute little wibbly wobbly legs to the day they left your abode without glancing back for a second, slinging their back packs over their shoulders, barely a good-bye, for "art school" (trying to relate to you guys here in some form!!!). Darn old art school! I miss my kids! WAH!
By the way, I have never had a security/baby safety item one of my kids couldn't break through. I remember carefully arranging an expensive stove shield on my stovetop once proudly standing back to admire my work, just to have my then 2 year old, now 17 year old, come waltzing along and just rip it right off for fun, as I stood staring, aghast. You gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold them, as the song goes.
Ok, here is my Ornament Thursday necklace--I planned it a whole month ago (thanks Eliz! http://wwwfourleafpress.com/, for the print-offs, they are PERFECT!) and IT'S BETTER THAN THIS, POSSIBLY, (maybe not)but Jim wasn't here to take the photo, and I spilled lunch on my shirt. No amount of "shouting" will shout that spot out, I fear. Out Out, darn spot! And you wonder why I never wear blue. Just ...don't wear blue. Or don't eat lunch. I don't know.
Here is a close up of the front of the card part of the pendant. This time, I am not going to give you my "secret way I made it" and here is why: because it's too boring. Let's just say I cut up the outside of a Crest White Strips box, and used Staples packing tape, and glitter glue. Please oh please, Staples, do NOT ask me to be your spokeswoman for you darn packing tape. It sticks to everything you don't want it to, it bubbles up, and it plain ruins people's LIVES
Here is the back of the "card pendant" which has the shamrock on the front. Prove me wrong! (actualy, it's the truth). See the packing tape pucker? That was part of the intention of the raffishness of the project. It's really hard to do that correctly. You need years and years of practice.
Here's the front AGAIN. Oh yes. It is indeed a playing card, it's a St Patricks Day symbol, it's just a nice touch, with green glitter glue!gotta go! This actually was a LOT of fun!

Elizabeth
Love your concept. I'm under 30 and I get the reference, tho. So, that's a good thing, right?
Jim just wants everyone to know that isn't packing tape. it's MASKING TAPE OR SOMETHING. I need a CLUE!!! hahahah! and thanks!
xox!!!
and ps: of course I would be Staples spokeperson...I would run so darn fast to be their spokesperson I'd break both my high heels! Where is my hair dye--it's been at least four weeks!!! I need to lookk my best! I want to sell staples, tape and rubber bands. And I am serious!!! YIKES!
hahhaha yep. besides. I like you!!!
I think you are neat, Alexa. :)
jean! xox
Your project made me laugh - what a perfect idea! Great, great quote. (And your comments about childproofing filled me with fear. My little guy ripped the stove guard off of our stove, too. Other things seem intact so far, though!)
Melissa--your son is a GENIUS, just like my kid? :)
Yes--"the safety years" are exhausting. I got so used to it, having had five sons, that I shall repeat what I have written before here:
If I could, I'd still be "wearing" my oldest, my 30 year old son (he is married and has two sons of his own!) in that snuglii I had!!! I bet I could squoosh him in, somehow!!! That was a nice safe time!!!
Jean
What a great idea! This is such fun. You are becoming a mixed media jewelry artist my friend!
This is a wonderfully unique take on the theme! Great work, as usual.
xoxo
Margot
What a fun necklace...looks like you had a blast making it. Clint Eastwood rules!!!
Oh My Leprechans! This was one of my favorite posts ever, Jean...so great! It looks like you had a blast!
Jean -- I love reading your posts! You make me laugh! Such an iconic saying for your project. It too made me laugh. I just love it all.
Ok, imagine me clenching my teeth together while I hold a pair of bent nose pliers at your blog post - "You made my day!" Clint has been the inspiration for many things and now he's got the real award - a necklace made by Jean! Sweet!
This is mixed media? I like mixed media !!! anything that allows me to use more crest whitestrips gets my vote!
as a director, Clint's movie Unforgiven is in my top ten. I love that movie. then again. i appear to be stuck in time. oh dear, oh well la la la!!!
Melanie--thanks--I did have a blast. Clint gets me going! loved your cool project by the way!
Dear kriss --I love your green sweater on you in you rpcture--you look so cool! and your prject is fantastic! and thank you!

OMG!!! You are TOO FUNny!!! I laughed until I stopped and then I laughed some more! :-) Hali
P.S. Thanks for the "secret post" comment--I've added a link to the Wed. post to get to the rest of the project.
I love your stories! and the project is very fun!! I'm totally intrigued by the Whitestrips part...
They grow up too fast. My boy is still a toddler and I think he's growing up too fast. I take my hat off to you for raising 5. Our 1 runs us into a state of exhaustion every night!
Oh GOOD Hali! I felt as if I had come upon a hidden treaure--it was too great to ust be seen by me!!!
Linda! I had no laminated stuff.the whitestrips box looked like stiff, clear laminate. what do i know? i am a wireworker and a jewelry designer! :)
Melissa--that first little one is tough, even if an easy child. I know this because I am a grandmother now with two grandsons and I remember anyway as my youngest is 13. It is an incredible adjustment to go from a childless state to a family. I thin it may be the BIGGEST adjustment. I could write reams about it both good and bad, happy and sad, hard and funny. It is what it is.
It is what has made me the person I am, nothing has changed me more than becoming a mother...in our case (not the usual) especially because two our of children are severely autistic! I know it is hard to believe I am sincerely saying this, but they have changed us for the better, as people. Funny, huh? But moreon that another time. Your journey will not be the same as mine. However we share a lot of simialrities. I love my kids. I sense you love your little one too. Worn out as you are. Boy do I remember sleep deprivation!
Jeanne... this is truly amazing!!!!
Thanks, Michelle! :)
Excuse me, dear friend. I am 28. And I got the reference right away.
My internet connection has been out for days. Just fixed it last night. I'm sort of feeling like a genius for fixing it. I'd feel even more like a genius if I wasn't the reason it went out in the first place.
Love you, love you.
Better late than never? I love this, Jean! You guys blow me away with the creativity...
HAHAHA! JENNY I have been working on something all day, and I am the cause and the reason and I, and the second cup of coffee I had, am driving myself NUTS
